      The View from the room

just for a deluxe room I did not feel like it was of a superioir Quality...

It is in an ideal location for exploring the North Devon coast either by car or by bus or train.

The service and time of breakfast was very good, though I have had more choice at 2 star hotels this year.

This was a treat I had promised myself since a childhood of riding past it on my way to school. It is not a treat I will repeat, nor will I recommend it to anyone. I would not have been happy with my annexe room at half the price I paid. The facilities were poor and at 10.45 I was asked if I would like another drink as the barmaid had cashed up. The entrance from the carpark was a side entrance. Join the late 20th century if you intend to stay open !

The staff at The Imperial Hotel were faultless. They were friendly, unassuming and very helpful. From the time we entered the hotel reception until the time we left we felt totally at ease.

We couldn't find fault in the hotel.

Excellent staff, facilities, cleanliness and location.

Confusing road signs saying that road is only for the use of buses and taxis which meant I drove around in circles totally confused.

Towels - nice and big food and service in reataurant

Price of Coke noise from next room

Excellent hotel, with staff to match, will definitely stay again.

I am not a typical visitor to your hotel because I was staying with you in order to take my 90 yr old mother to visit her sister who is terminally ill and staying at the North Devon Hospice. I was looking for a 'slightly old-fashioned' and comfortable hotel where she would feel looked-after.The Imperial Hotel fulfilled all of my requirements and my mother appreciated the care with which she was treated - your staff were unobtrusive but always there if she needed anything. She didn't want to eat in the restaurant and found the staff in the Colours bar very helpful - she would like to thank, especially, the lady who works there who was most attentive. Please pass this onto her.

My only complaint would be that you do not have an a la carte menu for the restaurant. We would like to have eaten there one night but my mother only has a small appetite and didn't want to order a two courde meal in case she couldn't manage most of the second course - she hates wasting food - but thought that the restaurant charges were quite reasonable.

Excellent hotel. Rooms were large and well furnished. The provision of fruit and chocolates in the room was a nice touch. Hotel is probably morr esuitable for the older generation. Some warning on the website about the need for a jacket and tie in the restaurant would be useful.

Good position and efficient staff made the stay very easy.

They need to fry the breakfast just before serving it. The Breakfast (bacon, sausage, hash browns, fried bread) were all soggy as if they had been preprepared to suit the Hotel rather than the Guest. If more of the Staff were allowed to relax it would make the Guests stay more pleasant.

Central location. Room was nice - although twin beds instead of a double

Dining room - set menu. Only al a carte in the bar area.

The room was very comfortabel and clean and the dining room and public areas were very nice. Breakfast and dinner menus were excellent.Would use the hotel if we came to Barnstaple again.

The hotel was spotless, the staff very professional and friendly and the food excellant we ate at the Bank Bistro which is part of the group and very close to the hotel and again it was very good indeed. We had a river view room which added to the experience.

Avoid this hotel, if not at least avoid the restaurant in this hotel. There are nicer places to eat close to the hotel. I was charged £90 for a service partially provided in the restaurant, refused a partial refund for the service not rendered; argumentative, ostentatious and pushy, staffs don’t know a thing about customer service. The staffs appear friendly only as long as you pay and forget it even if you are not provided the full service. When you remind them that they have not provided the service, they stonewall you and turn confrontational. For example, at the restaurant we were not provided the full service but we were charged £90 for a meal. Yet, in our room there was no television for three days, but they did not bother to get it fixed or give any information in this regards. Every time we called to enquire they replied, "it will be fixed soon", "some one will come around", "we are aware of the problem", etc, but nothing was actually done. Either way, customer loses in the end. No value for money. I have stayed in Marriotts and Hiltons around the world; this is no way a 4 star hotel – surely not for the service! Hotel itself was clean and tidy. But, we will not recommend this hotel to anyone. I am sure there are nicer, friendlier hotels in this area.
